Competition

Morning all, If the girls haven't told you yet, we will be unable to compete on January 17th for Big Red Rah Rah. The Varsity coach and I officially got word a few weeks ago that if we compete, we have to tumble. Since Ravena hasn't really been a tumbling cheer program for over 5 years, and since a few of the JV girls never competed before, the only small competitions around are Saturday, 2/7 and Sunday, 2/8. At minimum, every cheerleader needs to be able to do a proper forward roll.  A majority of JV had this down wonderfully at our last practice. Next step is proper round offs and back/ front walk overs. I'm asking that everyone please mark their calendars so we can compete that weekend, both Saturday & Sunday.  If there is a huge conflict due to already scheduled vacations, etc then we will compete at on which ever day works for the majority. Thank you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohzxAFH2zLQ&feature=em-upload_owner-smbtn Morning, Please review the video and practice your arm motions in regards to how they need to look.  Also, if your jump height isn't high, it's ok but your legs/ feet need to be straight pointed, etc. As a whole, jumps are worth 10 points on a score sheet.  It doesn't matter how big or small the squad is.  We get 5 points on upper body and 5 points on lower body.  Jump sequence: Pike-      Arms straight in front (candle sticks)      Legs straight in front, Toes pointed Right front-      Right leg in front toes pointed      Left leg kicked back (heel should almost hit your butt)      Arms straight, facing upward and next to your ears (no gaps) Toe touch-     Legs straight, toes pointed     Arms in a straight T motion Double nine-      Left leg straight, toes pointed      Left arm straight out      Right leg bend in, hitting near knee area      Right arm bend in, hitting le

Your competitors

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHyZgOtQ3WI We beat them at every competition last year but I'm told the Rensselaer Rams coach took over the Averill program.  Keep in mind Rensselar cheerleaders are one of the sharpest squads in the district. Of course this is only if the go non-tumbling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyLScLauEZA Schenectady JV competed non-tumbling last year and they beat us everytime.  Yes this video is old but keep in mind Schenectady cheerleaders have (for the past few years) awesome group jumps, motions and stunt technique. I want you to see what you might potentially be up against and to see what they lack and try to improve so as a squad we can make it a close competition. I honestly don't care if you get 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.  I want you feeling like you gave it your all and not even your competitors know who might win. My favorite quote, "It doesn't matter if you win or lose but how well the game is played." :)

Looky what I found!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hfdV53GkrM Keep in mind a good amount of JV last year was new to cheerleading too.  Motions and facials were awesome. This was them at Big Red Rah Rah :)

Tumbling Class Information

Tumbling Classes: Classes are open to everyone in the area and you can start anytime. Cost is just $10 per class. The gym registration fee of $35 is due at the first class. Please bring a completed CNY class/clinic release form from the Forms & Scoresheets link. Gym Closings due to weather will be listed on the front page of www.cnystorm.com . This is also the gym Jess Starr coaches her other squad for.

Flexibility is a Necessity

Hello, Just a friendly reminder that you should be doing your conditioning exercises and/ or stretching on a nightly basis please. It'll only take 5 minutes to work on stretching/ flexibility a night. A ton of you just need to improve on flexibilty for your jump height to increase greatly!  You already have amazing leg strength so let's work on that flexibility :) I'm suggesting conditioning nightly too, again just 5- 10 minutes total.  We might have to go tumbling next year and I want you to start building up your core strength now so it won't be so difficult for you next year.  If you don't have a sturdy back bend now (either from the floor or straight back) please, please, please start working on them now. Youtube has a ton of great "how to" videos on cheer stretching too.

We combine our football and basketball seasons into one banquet which will take place in April or May.

Sponsor T-Shirts

Hello!  I spoke to Jess last night about the T-shirts and she said we will be getting them in November.  We apologize on delay but SO MANY sponsors donated this year on both squads that they needed time to lay out the information on the shirts.  If your not doing basketball season you will still be getting a T-shirt. I ask that you text me your Name and T-shirt size please so we can have a list of the sizes we need. Xsmall, Small, Medium, Large & Xlarge Thank you :)

Hello, After tonight and tomorrow's open gym/ prac/ clinic, we will not meet again until Tuesday, 10/28/14 6pm-7:30pm.   If we don't end up having a game on 11/1, we will use this for uniform hand in/ team bonding.  If we do end up having a game, this will be for stunt practicing and halftime cheer refreshing.  11/1 will then be when you hand in your uniforms then, all of you. Fundraisers are also due tonight please.  Thanks!

Sincerest Apologies

Hello,   Again I sincerely apologize for the last minute notice on buses and cancellation of the Impact Test.  I emailed the AD as to what happened and when we need to reschedule.  Once I hear from him I will let you know.   As a lot of you know, cheerleading is officially a sport at the end of October.   Jess Starr and I met with the AD last night to discuss a few policy changes, guidelines, etc.   One of the policies is we have to wait until November 10th to hold basketball cheerleading try outs.  We are still meeting on Saturday, noon to 4pm, Tuesday, 10/14 and Wednesday, 10/15 since football season deosn't end officially until November 1st.   Saturday, Tuesday & Wednesday is going to be considered open gym/ prac/ cheer clinics so new people can still come and learn technique, with you/ varsity, etc and it'll be your practice as well since we still are working on stunting strength/ technique.   Good news, you can get the classification test out of the way on Sa

Also, no jewelry on the day of tryouts.  If your a returning cheerleader trying out you need to set an example.  Please wear a bow, even your game bow is ok.  You cannot have fake, gel, acryllic nails on.  I have told a few of you since September to remove

10/4 Game, looks like rain

Good morning, Currently (according to weather.com) it's suppose to start raining at 8am.  We do still have to go unless the game is canceled, we just don't stunt. If you chose to get one, I believe Family Dollar or the Dollar Stores have clear and/ or yellow ponchos for cheap; since you cannot hold an umbrella while cheering.  I would suggest not wearing your skirt if it is raining becuase I really don't want any of you catching a cold.  You may also want to bring a big plastic bag or a garbage bag to place your items in without them getting soaked.  Maybe we'll get lucky and the rain won't start until after the game :)

UPDATE on Selection Classification Test

I was told that if they fail two parts, they do noth make the team and there is no-retakes .  3 attempts only for each part of the tes on that day (10/11). Thank you
