Competition

Morning all, If the girls haven't told you yet, we will be unable to compete on January 17th for Big Red Rah Rah. The Varsity coach and I officially got word a few weeks ago that if we compete, we have to tumble. Since Ravena hasn't really been a tumbling cheer program for over 5 years, and since a few of the JV girls never competed before, the only small competitions around are Saturday, 2/7 and Sunday, 2/8. At minimum, every cheerleader needs to be able to do a proper forward roll.  A majority of JV had this down wonderfully at our last practice. Next step is proper round offs and back/ front walk overs. I'm asking that everyone please mark their calendars so we can compete that weekend, both Saturday & Sunday.  If there is a huge conflict due to already scheduled vacations, etc then we will compete at on which ever day works for the majority. Thank you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohzxAFH2zLQ&feature=em-upload_owner-smbtn Morning, Please review the video and practice your arm motions in regards to how they need to look.  Also, if your jump height isn't high, it's ok but your legs/ feet need to be straight pointed, etc. As a whole, jumps are worth 10 points on a score sheet.  It doesn't matter how big or small the squad is.  We get 5 points on upper body and 5 points on lower body.  Jump sequence: Pike-      Arms straight in front (candle sticks)      Legs straight in front, Toes pointed Right front-      Right leg in front toes pointed      Left leg kicked back (heel should almost hit your butt)      Arms straight, facing upward and next to your ears (no gaps) Toe touch-     Legs straight, toes pointed     Arms in a straight T motion Double nine-  ...

Your competitors

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHyZgOtQ3WI We beat them at every competition last year but I'm told the Rensselaer Rams coach took over the Averill program.  Keep in mind Rensselar cheerleaders are one of the sharpest squads in the district. Of course this is only if the go non-tumbling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyLScLauEZA Schenectady JV competed non-tumbling last year and they beat us everytime.  Yes this video is old but keep in mind Schenectady cheerleaders have (for the past few years) awesome group jumps, motions and stunt technique. I want you to see what you might potentially be up against and to see what they lack and try to improve so as a squad we can make it a close competition. I honestly don't care if you get 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.  I want you feeling like you gave it your all and not even your competitors know who might win. My favorite quote, "It doesn't matter if you win or lose but how well the game is played." :)

Looky what I found!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hfdV53GkrM Keep in mind a good amount of JV last year was new to cheerleading too.  Motions and facials were awesome. This was them at Big Red Rah Rah :)
